ER nurses see many more patients per shift than your average floor nurse. Admissions and discharges are standard practice, as patients enter and exit the ER for minor issues. However, the course of an ER nurse’s night can often take a radical turn with the presentation of a severe trauma patient, a cardiac arrest brought in from the field, or a patient whose condition starts deteriorating in the middle of a workup.
