Telemetry nurses are experts in the various rhythms of the heart, and they are able to identify them on the monitor. Knowledge of the heart is extremely important, as is the ability to read both a four lead and a 12 lead EKG. In this specialty patient conditions can change rapidly, as the heart rhythms are often unstable. Nurses must know the subtleties of when rhythms change and be prepared to react accordingly.
