Respiratory Therapists work with patients who have heart and lung problems. Their patients primarily consist of lung cancer patients, premature infants, and victims of heart attack or stroke. RTs  are specialized in cardiac and pulmonary care and are often more active in intensive care units, sleep and pulmonary labs or  in home health. They perform procedures such as evaluating lung capacity, chest physiotherapy and cardiopulmonary monitoring. They may also provide general patient examination and check tissue specimens.
