The radiology department performs many procedures that require constant monitoring by the nurse. For instance, an ultrasound needle biopsy of the thyroid is performed in radiology, and a nurse must assess the patient for stability and monitor any changes in condition throughout the procedure. In addition, doctors of radiology are not usually present for many procedures and it is left to the nurse to monitor for problems.
