Cath lab nurses handle both routine and emergency cases in the lab. Routine cases include heart ablations for atrial fibrillation or other heart arrhythmias. In these cases, nurses are tasked with the responsibility of monitoring the patient. They watch vital signs, assess for distress, and assist the physician in completing the catheterization. Since this procedure is sterile, cath lab nurses will have to scrub in to assist with handling equipment and materials.
