Hospital Jobs for Nurses and Therapists on Path to Steady Growth

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

Healthcare is generating an average 22,000 jobs a month. Hospital jobs in California, Florida and the Pacific Northwest on the rise

The healthcare jobs outlook wasn’t looking pretty for a while, but hospital jobs in the sunbelt and on the U.S. west coast are in recovery. Florida and California hospital job postings are up due to improvements in the economy and the hiring of temporary nursing job professionals is making a comeback.

“The demand for travel nurse jobs is heating up,” said Deb Bacurin, RN Clinical Coordinator with 50 States Staffing. In addition to sunny states – ER nurse jobs postings in Ohio and Kansas have increased and PICU and Telemetry RN nursing jobs are showing signs of growth in Massachusetts and New England. Soon enough, highly skilled, flexible RN jobs seekers will once again have their choice of hospital jobs wherever they choose to practice.”

Economists at the labor bureau report ambulatory services leading the pack of healthcare jobs growth in 2010, adding 160,200 nurses, doctors and therapist jobs to payrolls. Next, hospitals generated more than 50,000 positions, followed by residential care facilities accounting for another 15,000 healthcare employer positions.

Total healthcare jobs added to payrolls in 2010 amounted to 265,800, an average 22,000 jobs every month.

“The big news is more than 30,000 healthcare jobs were added to healthcare employer payrolls in February of this year alone,” said Bacurin. “Double the number in January. First quarter job increases are substantial.”

Preliminary data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows joblessness improving only slightly for permanent healthcare workers in the first quarter of 2011. But for temporary medical professionals and travel nurse jobs – a potential 27 percent increase in hospital jobs hiring, say staffing analysts – a boon for the travel nursing industry.
