Patients manipulate “smart textiles,” embedded in their room’s furniture and décor that help them control their environment. This allows them to become an active participant in their own recovery, benefiting more from rehab sessions with physical therapists and other members on the rehab team.
Bringing neuro-architecture to rehab hospitals required the expertise of those in a wide variety of rehabilitation therapy jobs and specialists, from psychologists and neurologists to occupational therapists and physiotherapists. Their efforts to date are being used in schools around the world, and have potential to help the elderly in skilled nursing home facilities.
